FAQ
More details about Curate for Tasting Rooms can be found below:
Curate for Tasting Rooms is a module within Curate, the digital wine platform and app, that drives exceptional guest experiences and supports revenue growth for wine tasting rooms. It currently includes our Digital Portfolio product, which combines elements of traditional price lists with visual tasting notes, terroir characteristics, winemaking data, and brand assets to create an engaging digital experience that customers can use to learn about the winery and explore wines available for purchase.
While Curate was designed to accomodate wineries of all sizes across every market segment, those with any of the following characteristics are likely to realize pronounced value from a Digital Portfolio implementation:
- Premium: Boutique, luxury, and iconic brands benefit by communicating the unique character of their wines to sophisticated and selective patrons.
- Technology-Forward: Brands placing a heavy emphasis on modern guest experiences and streamlined/data-driven operations see benefits in both the tasting room and back office.
- Culinary-Focused: Wineries offering canapés, charcuterie, or hors d’œuvres can accentuate the unison of their food pairings alongside wine aromas and textural components.
- Artisanal Winemaking: Brands employing specialty viticultural and enological practices (biodynamic, kosher, low alcohol, natural, organic, reduced sulfite, sustainable, unfined/unfiltered, vegan, etc…) can notate these attributes for individual wines or prominently at the top of their Portfolio.
Our Digital Portfolios are designed to be a digital accompaniment to your existing experience paradigm. In addition to showing an inventory of available wines, our Flights feature can be used to show ordered lists of wines that correspond to offered experiences.
In practice, we suggest introducing your Digital Portfolio to guests at the onset of their tasting—this enables them to reference details about each wine, optionally add their own tasting notes, and bookmark wines they’re considering purchasing as they progress through the flight.
Here’s our prescribed interaction sequence:
- Introduction: At the start of the tasting, introduce the availability of your Digital Portfolio by QR Code or NFC, or provide the guest with an iPad if available.
- Tasting Commences: Proceed to walk guests through the flight of wines, allowing them to reference specifics in Curate as they absorb details from the estate host / wine educator.
- Mid-Tasting Notes: Guests can optionally elect to build their own tasting notes, including use of our interactive virtual flavor wheel.
- Mid-Tasting Anchors: Guests can Bookmark wines of interest to revisit at the conclusion of the tasting, immediately Add them to a checkout list, or Favorite them under their personal Curate account.
- Post-Tasting Purchase: Guests can utililze the Portfolio as an information-rich guide to making their purchase decisions. If they added bookmarks mid-tasting, they can jump straight to their personal short-list.
Our Digital Portfolios are designed to supplement the role of estate hosts and wine educators, with these considerations:
- For Full-Service Environments:
- Staff can shift their focus towards the winery’s story and its winemaking philosophy, allowing Curate to provide the qualitative and quantitative attributes of the wines being tasted. This approach also increases the consistency of details communicated about the wines.
- Guests can more easily establish a rapport with staff after reading their mini-biographies and personal recommendations on available wines within the Digital Portfolio.
- Where staff host multiple parties, they may be able to maintain more tables concurrently as a result of guests finding wine details in the Digital Portfolio without needing to ask.
- For Self-Service Environments (e.g. WineStation®):
- Guests are able to access a wealth of details about the wines on-tap, fostering an engaging experience even in the absence of a hospitality professional.
- Coming SoonGuests can plan their tasting journey similar to a music playlist, adding and rearranging wines of interest, and keep pulse of which they’ve already experiened.
While our Digital Portfolios were designed with on-premise tasting room use in mind, they can also be linked to from your website to support e-commerce sales. Further, your allocation/club members can use your Portfolio as a reference guide when deciding when to open wines from their shipments and to easily access tasting notes.
It can, optionally. While the Digital Portfolio feature was designed to fulfill the same purposes as printed price lists and brochures, they are not mutually-exclusive—wineries can choose to retain their paper menu and include on it a QR Code that links to their Portfolio, achieving a balance between the tactile experience of quality cardstock with the information density of a touchscreen.

Every Digital Portfolio includes a self-service management dashboard wherein winery management can add and remove wines/vintage, as well as update pricing and availability in real-time.
Yes—Curate was designed to organize every type of technical detail about wines and vintages as structured data, so can be shared with distributors and used for industry relations in lieu of traditional tech sheets and trade portals.
VineyardView™ utilizes spatial maps to create an interactive experience for guests. It’s an engaging way to show the location of a vineyard relative to geographical features and appellation boundaries, as well as underscore the diversity of terroirs for wineries producing from multiple sites. Each implementation is custom—Curate’s team builds an experience based on the winery’s unique points of interest.
Within a Digital Portfolio, guests are able to interact with the map in three key ways:
- Tour Mode: Guests are able to traverse waypoints in a predefined order, for example, to see the vineyard that each wine originated from as they progress through a flight.
- Find Wines by Vineyard: Guests can see all wines from a particular vineyard in the price list by tapping on the vineyard’s outline in the map.
- Explore Terroir by Wine: Guests can effortlessly explore the terroir of wines shown in the price list by using the option to jump directly to the corresponding vineyard in the map.
Curate is available as a native app on the App Store for iPhone, iPad and the Play Store for Android, and also as a Webapp for Browsers.
Guests accessing a Digital Portfolio on their own device do not need to install the app; all functionality is available in the web-based version.

Each subscription includes one branded Digital Portfolio that seamlessly blends tasting notes, terroir, winemaking details, and pricing of current releases for tasting room guests, website visitors, and allocation/club members.
